The following table describes the typographical conventions used in this guide.

Convention

Meaning

Monospace

Indicates text that should be entered exactly as shown (including punctuation) or examples of code. Here is an example of a command line:

# mkdir /somedir

Bold Type

Indicates a path or the name of a program, process, procedure, routine, script, or table, such as ASSIGN

Italic Type

Indicates a variable entry, such as <server>, or a term being defined for the first time
